For more than 5 years, our team of licensed occupational therapists have worked in a variety of pediatric and special education settings in and around St. Louis, MO. One of the most common complaints we hear from parents and teachers of children with disabilities is the lack of selection of affordable switch-adapted toys in catalogs and on the internet. A quick flip through most catalogs reveals a small selection of generic "barking dogs" or "oinking pigs" priced several times more than you would pay for the same toy at a toy store! We have found that the toys our special kids really want to play with are the exact same toys their classmates and siblings are playing with!
At Adapted Playthings, we strive to make the latest and most popular children's toys available to any child, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities. We adapt popular, name brand, "off-the-shelf" toys and deliver them to you in their original packaging, ready to be activated by your favorite switch. We also offer a wide selection of fun adapted animal toys just like the large catalogs, but at a fraction of the price! Most toys have a 1/8" jack that can be plugged into by any 1/8" switch. In addition, we offer a variety of therapist-created, "home-made" switches and accessories as an affordable way to experiment with which type of switch works best for your child without wasting precious time and money!
